Reformation Redux
Naughty boys poring over a dusty old creed
Finding candle light bright in a flourescent age;
Pulsation high from reciting the crafted page;
Joy in the finding of a lost commonwealth deed.
Protected by the monarch from the papal state;
Casting off temperance, demanding cups of wine,
Seeing in the nihilistic chaos–design;
Freely choosing to do what was predestinate.
A letter to Rome canceling a trip to Rome;
Farel wrestling Calvin with a doctrinal hold;
Old Latimer’s death fire warming a time grown cold;
From the galley the glimpse of St. Andrews’ Church dome.
Giddy with joy over the bridegroom’s wedding kiss,
Daring the lifeless, faithless monks: Come out! Debate this!

Thanks, Grace. This year, for some reason, I have had a stronger than usual appreciation for Luther. We all need to be reminded of the need for reformation--personally and nationally.
